Maria (Landwehr) Lichte
Maria Landwehr was born in Niederjoellenbeck, Westphalia, Prussia, on February 23, 1845. She emigrated to the United States with her mother and four brothers in the fall of 1859, and settled in Franklin County, Missouri. Maria was married to Christopher Henrich Lichte on January 29, 1864.
This photo was provided to me in 1979 by one of Maria's granddaughters, Mary (Bangerter) Fengel. I believe that this "photo" is a charcoal drawing made from an early photo (probably a tintype) of Maria. Mary Fengel reported that the photo is marked with the name "Tonndorff Portraits", and a St. Louis address. It is difficult to discern Maria's age when the photo was taken, but I suspect that it was taken about the time when she was married, just prior to her 19th birthday.
